Sofia is a fictional playable character in the first three installments of the video game series.. She is a very well endowed Russian, Whip-Wielding Agent, and a friend of Eiji Shinjo.

But Sofia fell under the mind control of someone claiming to be called Uranus, the Deputy Head of the Himitsu Kessha Organization, for the sole purpose of eliminating Eiji to stop him finding his brother, Sho. Sofia and Eiji fought in the first Toshindaibukai, and Eiji emerged the victor, unwillingly hurting Sofia until she was unable to fight any longer. Frustrated, Uranus let go of the busty Sofia, but Eiji took Sofia to medical care after the tournament's conclusion.

Story

Sofia, along with Eiji, entered the second Toshindaibukai with revenge in her mind, but, like many other people who were after Uranus' head, were beaten to the punch by a revolting Sho, who had killed Uranus and Master after being framed for crimes by a series of clones created by Master.

Sofia entered the third tournament solely for the purpose of entertainment, but she was confronted by a Himitsu Kessha assassin in the form of her old Whip-Wielding rival; the Catwoman Zola. Sofia eventually killed Zola in combat, and after hearing of Eiji's take over of the Himitsu Kessha, retired from figting for good.

Duke is a fictional, playable character in the first three installments of the series. He is a French Nobleman, and a champion knight of his King's Castle in France.

Story

However, Duke was considered the strongest fighter in France until a young Japanese world-traveller named Eiji Shinjo was challenged to a duel by him. Eiji easily bested the arrogant Frenchman, and Duke vowed revenge.

For a while, Duke forgot about Eiji, and went on with his own life, eventually finding a girlfriend. But Duke turned back to fighting when he entered the Toshindaibukai tournament hosted by the Himitsu Kessha. To his horror, he came face to face with Eiji once again, and once again he lost pathetically, intensifying his hatred toward the Japanese Adventurer. Ashamed, Duke decided to retire from fighting.

But Duke entered the second Toshindaibukai after hearing that his girlfriend had betrayed him and become the new Uranus of the Himitsu Kessha. Driven by hatred, Duke entered the tournament, and this time, found himself fighting with Eiji to find Uranus. But when Duke heard that Uranus had already been slain by a man named Sho Shinjo, Duke abandoned the battlefield.

When the third Toshindaibukai was announced, Duke entered solely for the purpose of fighting Eiji once again, but he was stopped by a Himitsu Kessha soldier named Balga. Duke killed Balga in combat, and was one of the few fighters to survive the tournament.

Duke, after hearing that Eiji had slain the Himitsu Guards Abel and Viel and become the new head of the organization (a good one, not evil), retired from fighting for good, and settled down as a rich nobleman in France.

Story

A mercenary from a Japanese Warrior Clan, Mondo entered the first Toshindaibukai solely for the purpose of assassinating Eiji, an order from Uranus, the Deputy Head of the Himitsu Kessha Organization. However, Eiji, being half Mondo's age and more agile, defeated Mondo in a fierce and bloody battle. But Mondo was not killed, and swore that he would one day get revenge on Eiji for ridiculing him.

Mondo's second chance to kill Eiji came when the second Toshindaibukai was announced, but once again, Mondo was beaten by Eiji. Mondo once again swore that he would engage Eiji in another battle, only this time, it would be a fight to the finish.

Mondo, knowing Eiji would be there, entered the third Toshindaibukai in order to exact his revenge. This time, Mondo was confronted by his rival and fellow mercenary, Toujin, who had been sent by Vermilion, the new head of the Himitsu Kessha since the deaths of Uranus and Master, to assassinate Mondo. Mondo and Toujin dueled, and Mondo emerged the victor. But there was one more matter left to resolve: Eiji.

Mondo eventually came face to face with Eiji, and the two enemies fought once again. But Mondo made the fatal mistake by revealing that he was no longer part of the Himitsu Kessha. Knowing that Mondo would now be free to pursue him now that he had retired, Eiji fought as hard as he could. Eiji's brutal attacks were more than Mondo could handle, and the battle ended when he was finally slain by Eiji.

Story

Rungo was an ordinary miner, and friends with a fellow fighter named Gaia, but his life changed when Gaia mysteriously disappeared.

Bored by his lifestyle, Rungo decided to enter the Toshindaibukai fighting tournament hosted by the mysterious Himitsu Kessha. Rungo managed to get a glimpse of the tournament host, and although he couldn't see who it was behind his thick red armour, Rungo recognized the man's voice as that of his own friend, Gaia! Determined to get Gaia out of the Himitsu Kessha, Rungo fought as hard as he could, but was knocked out of the tournament by a Frenchman named Duke B. Rambert.

Two years later, Rungo received a call for help from Gaia. It turned out Gaia had hosted the tournament illegally, and was now a target from the Himitsu Kessha. Gaia begged his old friend for help to fight against his assassin, Chaos, and to get revenge against Uranus, who had killed his wife and son by causing a car crash. Rungo, determined to help Gaia, entered the second Toshindaibukai and fought alongside Gaia, until they were separated. Rungo heard that Gaia had killed Chaos, and that Uranus had been slain by someone else. Satisfied, Rungo returned home, until Gaia rejoined him.

Solely for entertainment, Rungo decided to enter the third tournament with Gaia, but the two soon found out that they had both been marked for death by the Himitsu Kessha for the death of Chaos (Chaos is on the third game, but in reality, he was killed during the second tournament). Rungo and Gaia were confronted by Tau, and the robot Adam. Rungo defeated Adam by turning him into a pile of scrap, but while Gaia and Tau dueled, Tau realized that he couldn't win, and forfeited the match.

After that, Rungo and Gaia retired from fighting.

In the first Toshinden, Gaia was the monstrous final boss (except on the harder difficulty settings where Sho was fought if the player beat every other character without losing). Wearing his armour, he took on the appearance of a Japanese warlord except for the 2 huge extra arms coming from his shoulders and ending in yellow claws. He would have been an extremely cheap character except for his one glaring weakness: Gaia is the second slowest character in the games. His jump, which launched him so high it gave both players time to think about their next few attacks before he landed, almost made up for it though. In the second Toshinden, Gaia has cast away his armour and is revealed to have Middle-back length silver hair and brown eyes. He wears gold-with-black-trim chest and shoulder armour, baggy red pants, and black and metal knee-length boots. His attacks had been toned down substantially from the first game; he could no longer kill in 4 hits. Also, he no longer had his impossible jump. In return, he was made slightly faster and easier to use.

Story

Gaia and his wife Kaede were both part of the Himitsu Kesshu organization that sponsored the Toshindaibukai tournaments. His wife was at that time the Uranus of the organization, making up part of the "Divine Four" (the four highest positions in the organization under the leader). Gaia himself was practically a member, but the one who would become the next Uranus thought it too dangerous to have them both in the Divine Four. Gaia, Kaede, their unnamed son, and their daughter Ellis were driving in the family vehicle when it spun out of control and exploded. Gaia and Ellis miraculously survived, but Kaede and their son were not as lucky.

Gaia knew it had been no accident, and he left Ellis in the care of an orphanage so he could pursue his family's assailiant without any hindrance. Gaia was promoted into the Divine Four, and he eventually learned that the woman who had become Uranus in Kaede's stead had masterminded what had happened. Filled with hatred for Uranus, Gaia illegally held the Toshindaibukai in search of strong warriors to aid him in his attack against her. Gaia met Eiji Shinjo at the tournament while searching for his older brother Sho Shinjo. Gaia announced his proposition to Eiji, but before Eiji could accept or refuse, Chaos, another member of the Divine Four, intervened and stopped the fight. Chaos told Gaia that he had been labelled as a traitor and marked for death. Gaia knew he had no other choice but to flee, for if Chaos had found him, Uranus couldn't be far behind, and he could not take her down on his own.

One year later, while still on the run, Gaia received an invitation to participate in the upcoming second Toshindaibukai tournament. Gaia realized that he could run all he wanted, but Uranus had an easier time finding him than she did breathing. He cast off his armour, and holding back nothing, fought against Uranus with everything he had; and this time, he was fighting with Eiji & co. Gaia fought his way to the organization's headquarters, meeting up with his daughter Ellis there. After telling her her true story, he went further into the tower and killed Chaos. Upon entering Uranus' chamber, however, he felt his heart leap into his throat upon discovering that she had already been killed. Gaia walked out of the tower half-fulfilled, half-revenge starved.

GAIA

Gaia's ambitions ended up causing tragedy, but he put

his life on the line and fought to save the fighters

he had led into disaster.

The battle was like none ever seen before, but Gaia

his courageous stand that saved the fighters who had

been targeted by the Organization.

Having established peace and triumphed over evil Gaia

Fo Fai is a playable character in the first two games of the series. He is a Chinese Magician who uses his Iron Claws as his primary weapons. Although he may not look it, Fo's heart is as black as the night, and takes the ultimate pleasure in the suffering and killing of others, especially Eiji, Kayin, and Ellis.

Story

For reasons unknown, Fo and his fellow assassin Mondo entered the first two Toshindaibukai tournaments hosted by the Himitsu Kessha Organization. Fo was knocked out by Kayin Amoh, and Mondo was knocked out by Eiji Shinjo, who eventually killed Mondo.

Fo's role as Iron Claw wielder is eventually passed on to the newcomer Bayhou, a humanoid ape.

Fo Fai is prominent in the series for being not only the oldest character, but also one of the most bloodthisrty, and perhaps the most sinister (since he appears as a kindly old man to most).

Fo still appears in Toshinden 3 as an extra outfit for Bayhou. He appears as an undead zombie with a bloody claw mark on his back, implying that he may be killed by Cuiling, a female assassin from a Hong Kong triad.

He now waits in eager anticipation for anyone to come

Tracy, being a skilled fighter as well as a policeman, was narrowly defeated by a Japanese Adventurer named Eiji Shinjo, but she eventually found the answers she needed: The now-dead Uranus was the one responsible for the deaths of Gaia's wife and son. Tracy returned to New York and reported to her superiors, but there was one thing that she couldn't get over: She was known as the most skilled fighter on the NYPD.

After the announcement of the third Toshindaibukai, Tracy entered once again. At first she just couldn't get along with her boss Nagisa Iwashiro - every - thing he did grated on her nerves. But as they fought side by side against Abel and his cohorts, Tracy's feelings changed as she noticed Nagisa's strong sense of justice. Finally, he won her whole-hearted respect.

Story

A close friend of Eiji Shinjo and Kayin Amoh, Ellis is a fighter skilled in the art of the Twin Dirk Daggers, and also a circus performer. She was raised in an orphanage in Turkey, told that her parents and brother had been killed in a car crash. Ellis, after reaching the age of 16, moved to Japan where she would meet and eventually develop an unreturned crush on Eiji, who was bitter at the sudden disappearance of his brother and mentor, Sho.

Along with Eiji and his friend Kayin, Ellis entered the first Toshindaibukai in order to test her fighting skills, but she, along with all the other participating fighters, discovered that the tournament had been held illegally by a man named Gaia, whom Eiji had been battling at the time. Furious at Gaia for deceiving her and everyone else like that, Ellis returned home with Eiji and Kayin.

However, two years later, Ellis received a letter from Gaia, who was calling for help. To her horror, the letter revealed that Gaia was actually her father and that she and Gaia were the only ones to survive the car crash sixteen years ago. It also revealed that Ellis was actually Japanese and not Turkish. It seemed that Gaia had been targeted for death by the Himitsu Kessha Organization for holding the first Toshindaibukai, and now needed help if he was to avenge the deaths of his wife and son, who had been killed when Uranus caused the fatal car accident.

Fighting her hatred, Ellis entered the second Toshindaibukai and encountered a man named Rungo Iron, who claimed to be a friend of Gaia's who had also received a call for help. Eventually reuniting with her father, Ellis fought in the tournament, but was knocked out by a Chinese Magician named Fo Fai, leaving Gaia and Rungo to fight along with their new ally: Eiji.

Ellis eventually heard that Uranus had been slain before Gaia and Rungo could reach her, and Gaia came home to Ellis, to start a new life together.

For entertainment, Ellis, Gaia, and Rungo, along with Eiji and Kayin, entered the third Toshindaibukai. But Rungo and Gaia had been targeted by Himitsu Kessha assassins: Tau, a tribal giant, and Adam, a robot Rungo's size. Ellis was encountered by another assassin named Atahua, a tribal boy. Ellis fought Atahua with all her might, but when Tau showed up and claimed that he had forfeited his match against Gaia, Atahua abandoned his fight with Ellis, understanding now that fighting was pointless. Ellis and Gaia bid farewell to Tau and Atahua, and left the tournament.

Since then, Ellis and Gaia have not fought again, retiring from the sport for good.

Kayin Amoh is a fictional, playable character in the Battle Arena Toshinden video game series, and the best friend of main protagonist Eiji Shinjo. Kayin is described as a bounty hunter, though his country of origin has changed a few times. He is described initially as Scottish, and later, British. His family in either version is descended from one of King Arthur's knights, hence his use of the sword Excalibur.

Story

Kayin was trained along with Eiji by Eiji's brother Sho Shinjo, until Sho disappeared one day. Since then, Eiji and Kayin have continued to be the best of friends, but also rivals. This friendship was nearly shattered when Kayin heard of his father's murder at the hands of Sho, for unknown reasons (possibly Kayin's father had been a target of the infamous Himitsu Kessha Organization, run by the ruthless Master and Uranus.

For a while, Kayin left Eiji and went his separate ways, but they met again at the second Toshindaibukai. Kayin was defeated by Eiji, and so he never got to face off against his sworn enemy, Sho.

Just before the third Toshindaibukai, Kayin rescued a little girl named Naru and adopted her, training her in the ways of the sword. Kayin and Naru entered the third tournament together, but were both knocked out.

It is unknown what happened to Kayin afterwards.

KAYIN AMOU

Kayin's foster father Amou was an assassin in the

Organization. Kayin longed to know the truth - did

Amou really love him, or was the affection he showed

Now, after destroying the Organization, Kayin has

finally discovered the truth.

Amou sacrificed himself to the dark ceremony in place

of Kayin, and in doing so showed his true devotion as

a father.

Once again able to call Amou "Father," Kayin can now

open his heart fully to his foster daughter Naru.

Description

Eiji has spiky brown hair and brown eyes. He wears a white headband and the top of a white-with-red-trim Gi tied by a red belt. Eijis gloves consist of black gloves with no fingers and white bandages along his forearm from his wrist almost to his elbow. He wears black pants, white ankle coverings with red diamonds on them, and brown shoes. Eiji is literally the ideal starting character. He is one of Toshinden's 2 all-rounders, having no advantages or disadvantages compared to the other fighters. Eiji's attack power, speed, and endurance are the standard by which all of the other fighters abilities are measured. In this respect, Eiji is often compared to Ryu (Street Fighter)

Story

Eiji and his best friend and rival, Kayin Amoh, were both trained from a very young age in the ways of the sword by Eiji's older brother Sho Shinjo. One day, however, Sho simply vanished, leaving Eiji and Kayin behind. As Eiji's skills grew, so did his desire to find his lost brother, and before long Eiji left in search of Sho. Along Eiji's travels, he fought and defeated a man by the name of Duke B. Rambert. Unknown to both of them, they would meet again many times over. Eventually, word reached Eiji of a tournament known as the Toushindaibukai, which was to include the best warriors the from across the globe, Duke and Eiji's old rival Kayin Amoh among them. Eiji enters the tournament in hopes of finding his brother Sho there. After defeating opponent after opponent, Eiji eventually faced Gaia, who was holding the tournament illegally. The rightful holders of the tournament, however, intervened, denying Eiji victory. He was not to be disappointed though, as Sho indeed appeared before Eiji. Needless to say, Eiji was ecstatic that he had finally found his brother, but Sho had changed into a heartless loner. In a flash, the fight was over, and Eiji had lost pathetically. Sho, however, gave Eiji one final look and vanished once again. Eiji took a vow; to continually sharpen his swordfighting skills and defeat Sho when next they met.

BATTLE ARENA TOSHIDEN 3 (ENDING)

EIJI SHINJO

No matter who he fought, Eiji was overshadowed by the

reputation of his brother Sho. Now that he has gained

victory in the Toshindaibukai, he realizes that the

only person he has to compete against is himself.

Eiji's companions also managed to survive the fierce

battle in which Eiji thwarted the evil plot of the

Organization. Eiji learned a valuable lesson during

the great battle - that one fights not only for

oneself, but for others also.

He cannot express this understanding in words, but he

feels it deeply in his heart.

Eiji's journey has only just begun...

Battle Arena Toshinden 3 Tournament

Unknown to the participants, while the previous "tournament" was occurring they were being watched by another sinister group known as the Organization.

The Organization intended to summon their dark god to earth in order to wreak havoc.

In order to do this they needed a pure hearted boy to use as a vessel and the blood of strong fighters.

For the former they had been secretly raising a boy called David through an orphanage.

For the later, they choose the Toshinden fighters. The Organization trained several assassins in the Toshinden fighters fighting styles. Led by Abel they went out to try to capture the Toshinden fighters...
